Living with Markus by Florence Osmund

Forced to choose between cultivating a satisfying life for himself and rescuing his dysfunctional family members from their certain demise causes Marc to question the importance of family. Having put an embittered past behind him, Marc builds a successful landscaping business with clientele from the affluent suburbs of Chicago and starts to appreciate the finer things in life—and he’s found the perfect woman to share in it. But when his alcoholic sister and her two young sons enter into the picture, Marc falls victim to their helplessness and temporarily puts his own life aside. When his despondent father is added to the mix, it doesn’t take long for Marc to completely lose sight of his own dreams—and his girlfriend.

Does Marc save his relatives from their ill-fated lives, or save himself from entering into a life of self-sacrifice and missed opportunities? Painful soul-searching and late-night talks with the captivating tenant downstairs guide him to an unexpected decision and discovery of his true purpose in life.

I love this book! I was never a big reader, always having to reread what I had just read, never finding an author that held my interest, but this author has a great talent for letting you in, pulling me in really. Her characters have depth and you feel like you’ve known them for a very long time. I actually felt like a fly on the wall watching this story unfold. I literally couldn’t put the book down, and when I did, I was thinking about Marcus and his dilemma and how he was going to change his situation. As the story developed I felt anger, surprise, sadness, joy and disbelief. I am anxious to read more from Florence Osmund. I highly recommend this book along with this author’s previous works.

Florence Osmund’s latest book is Living With Markus. As in her other books, her characters have depth, and ethical dilemmas are confronted. I thought I might not be able to relate to a male being the main character, but Markus proved me wrong.
Family dynamics, and family secrets are always intriguing, and make this book a page turner. After you read a book by Florence Osmund, you will be impatient for her to finish her next book. This book is a very good read.

This book actually reminded me of me many years ago, wanting to help everyone, clearly codependent. A person who did not love myself because I was looking for love and approval from others. So it was a little sad for me to remember back to that time in my life.
This book shows that establishing boundaries, being clear with thoughts and words and always trying to do the “right thing”, helps everyone.

I fell deeply into living with Markus. It was a clan of people , each with heart aches and love. I have yet to read a novel Ms. Osmund penned in which I thought I could stop soon. Sometimes an all nighter becomes well worth a loss of sleep for last page.
