I really enjoyed this story. I am not normally a historical romance person, but I loved the characters in this story, and it kept giving unexpected twists and turns. Plus the author obviously put a lot of time in research and editing, which I am finding is harder and harder to find. I would definetly recomend this book, especially if you love historical.
I finished this story and wanted to add that it only gets better as you continue to read. Oh my gosh the ending is screaming SEQUAL PLEASE!!!! I have to continue reading this story. The characters are amazing, their is intrigue and murder, love and betrayal. This is sooooooo great. I will be watching this author weekly in anticipation of more of her books. Amazing!!!!!!

Eloquently written, terribly romantic, with about as many twists as one might expect in a great mystery novel, “An Unlikely Arrangement” grabbed me from the beginning and did not let go.
This is a story of a spirited young lady, Ruth Squire, who defies her parents wishes and goes out to live the high-life in 1929 Detroit. It is packed with all the glamour, suspense and romance as “The Great Gatsby,” with just as much greed and betrayal. A great book to spend a summer evening with, or to curl up on a couch and pass away a lazy afternoon.
Get ready to be transported back to ‘The Roaring Twenties’ – a time period when jazz music blossomed, the flapper redefined modern womanhood, and Art Deco peaked; and become deeply involved in the lives of these colorful characters as they navigate their way through a weaving plot of intrigue and mystery.

An Unlikely Beginning by Patty Wiseman.

1929 … Detroit can be a dangerous place … Seventeen-year-old Ruth Squire’s fiance, the love of her life, disappears on their wedding day, and it’s up to her to find him. A blue feather is the only clue she has, which leads her down on the docks to a seedy nightclub. The risk to save Peter Kirby is enormous. Can she rescue him, or will she only put him into deeper danger? Disguised as a jazz singer, Ruth steps on the stage, knowing her life is on the line … Knowing she may never escape … “Such a great story! I would recommend it to all. There is history, love, tragedy, mystery, and hope, all tangled together into an intriguing drama. I laughed, cried, cheered and gasped throughout the entire book!” -Kimberly Farmer, Panola College Part of the Velvet Shoe Collection.

Second in the Velvet Shoe Collection, AN UNLIKELY BEGINNING is a romantic mystery that got me thinking, laughing, sighing and crying. They say that a good mystery should leave you anticipating with each page turned. This one certainly did not disappoint. And they say a good historical writer can take you back in time. Well, I was hereby transported to another place and time.
Set in 1920’s crime-ridden Detroit, a blue feather leads seventeen-year-old Ruth Squire on a search for her missing fiancée, Peter Kirby. She cleverly disguises herself as a seductive jazz singer in order to gain entrance into the seedier side of town. Mobsters and Riff-Raffs fill the pages as Ruth pursues her rescue mission. She follows one telling clue after another. Back-history is trickled in, which makes the story even more interesting.
Overall, AN UNLIKELY BEGINNING is a fabulously entertaining read worthy of five gold stars. Having already read the first in the series (An Unlikely Arrangement), I’m now ready to dive into Book three.

Ruth is back, in this second book in the series, ‘Velvet Shoe Collection’. This time her life is in danger. Masquerading as a jazz singer, she journeys to a dingy nightspot in search of her fiancé, Peter. The only link she has in hopes of finding him, is a blue feather. She goes down to the docks, to a dodgy club searching for him. Of all times for Peter to vanish it was on their wedding day. Will she find him? If she does find him, can she save him? It’s a dangerous task and Ruth is well aware that she may not get out of this alive. Patty Wiseman incorporates her fascinating and vibrant imagination into her well plotted storys. Once I started this story I was soon imagining myself with Ruth following along with her in the 1920’s era. I found this to be a wonderful story, and I could picture book 1: (An Unlikely Arrangement) and it, as a miniseries made for tv in something like Masterpiece Mysteries.

There are a few books that I call page-turners, but Patty Wiseman has done it again. A captivating sequel, one I couldn’t wait for with meandering rotation as well as unforeseen resolution griped me throughout. For me, such an easy read because Patty’s work draws me in and doesn’t let me go. Eagerly looking for her next one. Great work Patty!

An Unlikely Conclusion.

A train wreck threatens her future; a long kept secret threatens to destroy her past. Just when she begins to feel safe the terror begins again. One moment in time, on what should be the happiest day of her life, changes everything. Does Ruth have the strength to fight the chain reaction that finally reveals a shocking secret? Detroit in 1929 may be the scene of an unlikely conclusion.

The action and adventures continue in the conclusion of the Velvet Shoe trilogy. As secrets are revealed, the wedding couple wonder if they have made a dreadful mistake. Deadly mobsters are ready to kill them all, so it takes courage and gumption to fight them off. Luckily this family has plenty of both. I recommend reading all three books in the collection and enjoy the wild ride to a satisfactory conclusion.

“An Unlikely Conclusion” is the third book in the Velvet Shoe Collection–I read all 3 in order and would encourage everyone to do the same, so you really get the feel of the series.
This book begins just after Ruth Squire and Peter Kirby finally manage to get married. They board the train to begin their honeymoon and less than a hour later they are involved in a horrific train accident. The intensity of this dramatic event is made even more tragic by Ruth’s momentary willful and stubborn actions just before it happened. This book leads them into another series of unexpected history that they had no idea about, and their relationship is almost torn apart.
Patty Wiseman has done masterful job of penning this Historical series, bringing to life the feelings of real human beings caught in turbulent times; in the corruption of the mob during the Roaring Twenties. Even if you don’t usually read the Historical genre, I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
The entire Velvet Shoe Collection is a worthwhile addition to any ones library!Once again–I love, love, loved the cover!

As with the other two novels in this collection I have to admire the author’s ability to create such twists and turns in the story (and tie them up so well later, so as to leave no loose ends) that the reader simply doesn’t want to put down the book or switch off their Kindle.
I found “An Unlikely Conclusion” to be a fast-paced novel (which is what I personally like best). Some of the twists, I could see coming, but others took me by surprise. At one stage, I even became teary-eyed! In short, I have to say Ms Wiseman was able to engage my attention, which is no small feat when an author tries to do this with their audience.
As far as I’m concerned, Patty Wiseman will guarantee you a fast ride on this one, and as Bette Davis says in one of her movies: “Hang onto your seats; it’s going to be a bumpy ride!”

I thought I’d share this author spotlight on Dave Mayall’s blog with you today. In the spotlight is Patty Wiseman, a delightful lady and author, and her series set in 1920s Detroit.
This series looks good and is on my To-Be-Read list. According to the great reviews it’s been getting, I’ll need to set aside a bit of time because it sounds like I’ll not want to put these books down once I start them.
